San Diego Web Design

Susan Rust and Rick Wagner started Green Bird Media in San Diego in 2004 to create web design and graphic design for small companies and non profit groups. The concept was to help smaller companies develop strong communication tools:

  • State-of-the-art web design
  • Email marketing
  • Print & marketing material
  • Logo & identity work

Today, they service a national clientele but are still crafting visual brands and websites for companies nationwide. Of particular note are the many non profit websites that have helped organizations grow and reach a larger audience.

Web Designer Susan Rust

My job titles over the past twenty-five years have changed but the commonalities have been in taking a leadership role through initiative, hard work and innovation. My ability to provide new solutions to old problems has been a characteristic that has been highly valued by my respective employers and clients.

In the last five years, I’ve taken my design, fine art and sales management abilities to create a new company that focuses on branding and website design. But in truth, we transform organizations to fulfill their mission more easily through better communication tools.

Although a small firm, we’ve been able to test and implement high-quality solutions while learning best-practices in our industry. Our ability to stay current with an environment of high velocity technological advances is an asset. Our industry is becoming segmented as we move into different areas of specialty: development, hardware, design, and marketing.

Our move to open-source is natural and it allows us to provide an excellent technology platform in an affordable manner to our nonprofit clients. We guide them into solutions that were beyond their expectations and understanding.

Web Developer Rick Wagner

I started my career in the Graphic Arts as a press operator in the late 1980’s before making the jump to computer-aided desktop publishing. I've led pre-press departments at Digital Color Systems, Inc., as well as Graphic Communications, Inc., and was one of the first Scitex Brisque operators in Southern California.

My twenty years experience in print design and production has made web design a natural evolution. I've been designing websites for the last ten years with an emphasis on usability and navigation. Currently we're focusing on leveraging Web 2.0 technologies for non-profit clients in the areas of fundraising, building awareness, and community building.

Drupal Web Design: Why We Love Drupal

This dynamo content management system is WordPress on steroids times 10. It's a workhorse platform that is:

  1. Free to download
  2. Search engine-friendly
  3. Flexible
  4. Scalable
  5. Modular
  6. Excellent start for community platforms
  7. Well-used, has critical mass for 400,000+ websites
  8. Well-supported
  9. Decently documented
  10. Is constantly being improved upon
  11. Large and reliable developer community

Several years ago, we made the leap when Drupal was still unknown to become an all-Drupal web design firm. It's been a great move for us professionally and our clients have enjoyed tremendous benefit from our hard-won knowledge. Perfect for nonprofits and directory sites, we find it continually challenging and rewarding.
