Change.org has a beautiful website, but look at this brilliant call to action on the right sidebar. Not only are you able to see the petitions, but there is a counter to tell how many people have signed a particular petition. Nothing like a little peer motivation to get someone to sign up.
St. Paul's Cathedral-4-the-City Episcopal Anglican Church recently went through a website redesign to become more user-friendly, social oriented and timely. The new church website speaks to a younger audience with links to Facebook, Twitter and podcasts of the sermons.
Companies used to be able to find their audience with a look at their customer base, maybe peeking at the competition and folks could figure out their customer demographics: male, 40-50, likes sports, watches sports 5.5 hours a week.
